The Donetsk People’s Republic is leading the way as an example among nations. Today in the city of Donetsk, an International Forum entitled “Donbass: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” is being held to discuss the broadening of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics’ global economic relations and their further establishment as states. Among the attendees are representatives from all over Europe, including members of the European Parliament, political scientists, charitable organization members, scholars and journalists. The countries represented are France, Germany, Italy, Greece, the UK, Finland, Israel, Serbia and Syria.
At the International Forum’s meeting today, DPR Parliament Speaker Andrei Purgin said, “Maybe [Donbass] will discover a way out of the impasse in which, dare I say it, the whole world finds itself.” And maybe it will. Indeed, to many global observers, the two Republics of Novorossiya have emerged as the great world hope. They have come to symbolize freedom, self-rule, and the forging of a nation that values the rights of its people, ideals most countries have long abandoned for so-called security and elitist financial gain.
This is one of many steps the Donetsk People’s Republic has taken toward sovereign independence. Donetsk is setting a bold example, building a viable nation in defiance of global skepticism, undeterred by the wrath of foreign governments.
We present below four articles on the Donetsk International Forum, including a May 12 update on Finland’s growing recognition of the DPR (see fourth article):

On May 11, the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic hosted an international forum “Donbas: yesterday, today and tomorrow.” The forum was attended by DPR Parliament Speaker Andrei Purgin, Vice-President Denis Pushilin, State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev and MEP [European Parliamnent Member] Jean-Luc Shaffhauzer. All gathered to discuss the economic situation and the existence of the People’s Republic of Donetsk.
“Russian Spring, which took place a year ago, has given rise to significant changes. There is now an alteration of the political discourse. Donbass is the experimental ground for the Russian world. Maybe it will discover a way out of the impasse in which, dare I say it, the whole world finds itself,” noted Andrei Purgin.
Issues related to the situation surrounding the DPR and LPR were addressed, along with prospects for a peaceful resolution of the crisis. They discussed opportunities for the development of economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation at the international level.
“My dream is not the dream that America has. If you are together in Paris, Berlin, Moscow and Beijing, the United States will seem a small island, but that does not suit them…. Maidan was prepared in advance, and Ms. Nuland appointed future members of the Ukrainian government. Europe does not want the war to end. We just need peace, and we need to find partners in the world,” said the deputy of the European Parliament JL Shaffhauzer.
The International Forum “Donbass: yesterday, today and tomorrow” was attended by the residents of Donetsk People’s Republic and foreign guests:
Jean-Luc Shaffhauzer, MEP (France); Luis Dyurnvalder, former president of the Italian region AltoAdidzhe, South Tyrol; Eugene Uzunidu, the deputy of the Greek Parliament (“SYRIZA”); Alessandro Musolino, a political scientist (Italy); Manuel Ohzenrayter journalist, Chief editor of the German magazine Zuerst (Germany); Johan Beckman, political science, sociology (Finland); Colin Stevens, a journalist (UK); Dragana Trifkovich, political scientist, member of the leadership of the Democratic Party of Serbia; Andreas Zafeyris, Association of Greek refugees from Ukraine (Greece); Petros Papaconstantinou, the journalist’s largest daily newspaper “Kathimerini” (Greece); Stevica Dedzhanski, a political scientist, chairman of the NGO “Center for International Cooperation” (Serbia); Fran Allen Christian, chairman of the charitable organization “Emergency Children of Ukraine” (France); Emmanuel Le Roy, charitable organization “Emergency Children of Ukraine” (France); Michael Barkan, vice mayor g.Afula (Israel); Max Lurie, a journalist (Israel); Marcus Fronmayer, member of the leadership of the party “Alternative for Germany” (the opposition); Kevork Elmassyan journalist, political scientist (Lebanon, Syria);Alessandro Bertoldi, a political scientist, member of the leadership of the party “Forza Italia”; Andrea Villotti, economist, political scientist (Italy); Arno Suai, a journalist (France); and Estelle Moser, a journalist (France).

Vice Speaker of the DPR People’s Council Dennis Pushilin opened the international forum “Donbas: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” May 11 in Donetsk. “We are here today to find out the causes of the conflict and find a solution to overcome it. The entire year we were faced with all sorts of problems, and perhaps not all decisions were timely, but we made them,” said the Deputy Chairman of the Parliament, acting as the principal forum moderator.
“I am pleased to welcome all the DPR [representatives] in the capital, all those who care about the fate of the Republic, [those from] the LPR, and the Europeans. I respect you for your courage to come to us. Everyone understands what Donbass means to Ukraine. It is 73 per cent of the [natural] resources. For Ukraine, the loss of Donbass equals death,” DPR Leader Alexander Zakharchenko said, welcoming the guests of the forum.
One of the goals of the international forum “Donbass: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” is the strengthening of foreign economic relations of the People’s Republic of Donetsk, added Alexander Zakharchenko.
“We hope for a speedy development of industry and economic growth. I am sure it will revive soon. At the international forum ‘Donbass: yesterday, today, tomorrow’, we expect to strengthen economic cooperation, including an agreement on the supply of [resources] abroad,” commented the head of the journalists.

Donbass International Forum Update May 12:
Is Finland on Course to Recognize Donetsk
People’s Republic?
Sputnik
May 12, 2015
It has de facto already happened, Johan Bäckman, a Finnish political activist, author and legal sociologist, is convinced, if not for the country than at least for one of the governing parties.
Bäckman said that supporters of the ruling party in Finland volunteer at the Mission of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) which [was] established in Helsinki a year ago, as reported by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper. “The fact that supporters of the ruling party [in Finland] have started to work in the best interests of the DPR is a significant development,” Bäckman said, referring to the Social Democratic Party of Finland, as quoted by the media outlet.
According to Bäckman, “This means that de facto a government party of an EU member state has recognized the DPR.” The political activist added that the DPR mission in Helsinki tries to counter massive propaganda in the Western media targeted against the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. These are the two regions in eastern Ukraine that refused to accept the Kiev authorities that came to power following a coup in February 2014. “We sent journalists to Donbass to objectively report for the Western media outlets. We sent a Finnish filmmaker to shoot a documentary on foreign volunteers,” the Russian newspaper quoted Bäckman as saying at the “Donbass: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” international forum.”
“A book titled ‘Donbass will rise from ruins’ will be released in the near future. Penned by popular Finnish author Matti Rossi, it tells the story of the DPR establishment and the republic’s fight for freedom,” the political activist added.

Manuel Ochsenreiter’s Speech at International Forum Donetsk, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. “The crisis of Donbass means also a crisis of one of the most important collective human rights – the right of self-determination. Unfortunately we can say: The more Western politicians and media talk about self-determination, the less they practice it,” observed Ochsenreiter at the May 11-12 forum in Donetsk.
